Aalto University School of Art and Design
Faculty Member, Pori School of Art and Media
Lecturer (Theory of Visual Culture)
About
Studied aesthetics, philosophy and semiotics in University of Helsinki, University of Uppsala, Pisa University and for one term as PhD at Temple University Philadelphia. MA, Licentiate, and PhD, anyway, done for Helsinki University. Working more in the art world than in scholarly territories. Currently teaching visual culture theory - which in my case means pure philosophy and art theory, not visual studies - at Aalto University. More CV on homepage.
Research interests include kitsch, aesthetics of popular culture, terrorism (visual imagery), contemporary art, film philosophy, camp, and - if names are added - scholars like Eco, Dewey, Danto, Vattimo, Adorno, Benjamin, Agamben, and Heidegger. Lately been as well hot for Irigaray, Kristeva's way of writing and Jan Mukarovsky.
